4thgen, I don't think they all make out like that because there are areas of the country where they get very little. The area where I live they are very generous and they probably get even more than $300 a visit. One CO loved the congregation I use to be in because they were very generous. He even instructed us from the platform to give to the CO's, DO's and Bethel speakers. One time we gave some money to the DO and we got a pre-printed thank you note that was a picture of his wife and him. I really thought it was arrogant the way he did it.

Head covering for women--how did you feel about this? Men? Women?
by humbled inthinking about how this felt awkward to some of us women when a bible student noticed something was "up" if a baptised brother sat in on a study.
had to reference 1 cor.
11:1-16.. i wonder if this irked any while you were still in?.

I too hated it. I kept one in my service bag but I don't remember using it much. They will do anything to make another person feel like crap. It always bothered me because again it was an outdated custom and a way to belittle women.

I am sorry you had to go through that, it does not feel good when it happens. Hold your head high and smile and say hi. I have faded for 19 months and yesterday was the first time I have had face to face shunning. Recently there has been gossip spread about me because I deleted all JW's from my FB account. I was in a doctors office and I have talked to the doctor very openly about walking away from the JW's and he was a source of support for me. I walked out from having a massage and their was a JW at the front desk and the employee greated me. At first I didn't notice the JW standing there but I kept my eye on her to see what would happen and she finally looked at me and I very happily said Hi with a big smile and she barly said hi and walked away. I thought I would be crushed but I felt ok after. I think I am at the point where it doesn't matter to me any longer. Everyone of my "friends" are long gone so I have accepted it and moved on.
Hang in there. It will get better, it just takes time and each of us handles it differently.

Welcome, I am happy to hear you have a college education because so many don't and it can make life even harder. Do things at the pace you feel comfortble with. I was in 30 years and my husband was a born in for 58 years. I was the one who started to read and question things but I immediately told him everything I was finding out. I do not hold back with him. LOL! I was able to get him to read Crisis of Conscience and it changed his life. Since then we have both read many of the EX - JW books and Steven Hassen's books.
For some reason it never dawned on me when I started this journey that my husband would not follow. He was an elder for many years and being raised in it plus they have 5 & 6 generations of JW's in his family. He actually was seeing things but just hadn't put it together. He was researching some subjects that his bible study's wife asked him and he could not find the answers for her because they were false teachings.
One thing that is so positive in your life is you are young without children at this point. Hopefully, you will be able to get your wife out so you don't end up divorced. Hang in there because this is a tough journey but life sure looks much better on the outside. Our life has been the best it ever has been.

I just bought their competition and I have tried it once. It makes your eyes water!! Sugering is almost the same thing as waxing. All three of them sting when you use them. My understanding is that the longer you use one of these methods the less the sting gets.

I'm not trying to brag, but being an EXJW is awesome!!! Status Update-
by Coffee House Girl inhello jwn!
i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.
i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

Congratulations!! No you are not bragging and it makes my heart rejoice when someone from the EX community is able to follow their dreams and get into college and then on top of it to get offered a free Masters program. Way to go. Keep up the good work and my only suggestion would be to look at the history of both schools and see which one will give you a better advantage in the job market since your area can be a little harder to get into. Both schools are in great areas of the country so you would probably enjoy either one unless you hate the cold! LOL

I did it !!!!
by snare&racket in7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.
i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.
i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

Congratulations Dr. Snare! I am so proud of you, what an accomplishment. It brought tears to my eyes because I am always happy to hear that one of the Ex-JW's reached for their dream and made it. It will be worth it!

JWs no longer taking the Governing Body seriously.
by kneehighmiah inthe recent letter being us to come to detroit shows that jws are beginning not to take the gb seriously anymore.
the buzz following the meeting was that the letter was unprecedented in its tone.
this coming from long time jws of 30 years plus.

Welcome Magnum, I can remember when I first started attending in the early 80's there was always deeper discussions at that time. We even use to have WT studies at each other's homes Saturday evening after we ate dinner together, those days are long gone. Now you never get together and they discourage you getting together to study WT materials. I remember there was a time when it was highly discouraged to talk about anything in the meetings but spiritual things. If you talked about your job, shopping, vacations etc. you were spiritually weak.

Once Again: It's Okay for JWs to Rip-Off Non-JWs
by Iown Mylife intoday i heard from the owner of a small restaurant, the story of how a brother in a local congregation ripped him off for thousands.
the restaurant owner is not a jw but totally familiar with the cult, as his mother is a long-time baptized sister.
she asked him to hire this wonderful brother from her congregation to do construction work he needed at his house.

We learned the same thing! We have been ripped off by a couple of elders that were never removed for it. We refuse to do work for JW's because of it.
When my husband was a elder there was another brother that did construction and he did two remodel jobs for an older widowed sister and a brother with a non believer wife. He screwed both of them on their jobs and when the brother went to the elders about it because his wife was about ready to leave him over it my husband felt terrible for him and told him he would finish his kitchen remodel for the little bit of money left in the job, and yes we lost money because of it but he was very thankful we helped him and did some nice things in return. The brother who conned them had bad check notices up all over the place and he had an afair with another sister and yes you can guess it, he was made an elder a couple of years ago!! He also never paid his income taxes!!!
The owner of the restaurant needs to go after him and get whatever he can. If I were in his position I would talk to the local body of elders and write the WTS. He needs to make a big stink over it and he might get some action.

Seeds of Doubt.
by donny inseeds of doubt.
what was it about the jw religion that first gave you serious doubts as to its truthiness?.
for me it occurred in late 1984 when we were studying the brochure the divine name that will endure forever which had been released at the summer convention that year.

Mine started before I started an official study and it was the disfellowshipping rules. I allowed myself to be loved bombed because I was 1600 miles away from my family and friends and had a little son and divorced.
I had many things come to mind throughout the 30 years I was in and I didn't listen to myself. Instead my mind and body broke down because of it and I finally got so sick and didn't attend meetings for a month which helped me see the real truth about it.
